Co-designing a mobile application with immigrant adolescents for better sexual and reproductive health

You can now have all the information and resources you need for your sexual and reproductive health in one place!

Accessing accurate and reliable information for adolescents regarding sexual and reproductive health (SRH ) matters can be challenging. Immigrant adolescents face additional barriers as they try to navigate their sexual and reproductive health journey amid potential religious and cultural restrictions. We collaborated with immigrant adolescents in Canada to learn about the issues adolescents usually face with accessing SRH information and what resources might prove useful to them.

We interviewed immigrant adolescents in Edmonton, Vancouver, and Toronto and explored their experiences of growing up in Canada. We inquired about their information needs regarding SRH and how information can be effectively disseminated among immigrant youth.

Mobile applications have great potential to advance SRH outcomes and deliver information and resources efficiently. Collaborating with adolescents, we are now developing a prototype for a mobile application that will provide all the resources and information to adolescents regarding their sexual health and well-being!
