Wider impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the health and well-being of pregnant and parenting youth and their children in Canada

Developing a deeper understanding of the pandemic’s effects on this group, leading to better preparation for future health emergencies and pandemics.

This project seeks to investigate the wider impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on pregnant and parenting youth and their children in Canada, with an emphasis on their health and well-being. Recognizing this demographic’s inherent vulnerabilities and limitations, the study aims to better understand the direct and indirect effects of pandemic response efforts, such as disruptions in routine health and support services. The major goal is to look at how these consequences have affected the mental, physical, and social well-being of pregnant and parenting youth and their children, as well as to offer effective interventions.

By addressing health and social inequalities exacerbated by the pandemic, this research aligns with Sustainable Development Goals #3 (Good Health and Well-being) and #10 (Reduced Inequalities), targeting a structurally marginalized population.
